Here the COUN 502 003 FA 2013 class will be blogging and sharing their experiences interviewing an adult in a different developmental stage. Students will discuss with the adult their age and stage of life at the time of the interview. Students will also ask the interviewee about stressors and challenges associated with the present developmental stage. In addition, in order to help interviewees discuss experiences related to the psycho-social crisis students will talk with them about their resources and strengths while also considering challenges and difficulties. In addition to discussing the current developmental stage, students will also ask interviewees about their experiences in previous stages of development and will ask them to reflect on how they overcame challenging times and which coping skills were used. In addition to synthesizing and sharing this information in narrative form students will also read a journal article from the Peer Reviewed Literature (published within the last 5 years) related to considerations for optimizing brain health and brain development (AKA neuroscience and neuro-biology). Students will add some questions for discussion and will comment on the blogs of at least two classmates. Please see the related excerpt from the syllabus below and review the rubric in the syllabus.
